Biography

Patrick Joseph Kennedy was een Amerikaans politicus. Hij was de vader van Joseph Kennedy, en de grootvader van Amerikaans oud-president John F. Kennedy. Patrick was de zoon van arme Iers Rooms Katholieke immigranten die zoals veel Ieren zich in Boston vestigden. Hij ontpopte zich als een zakenman, en na aankoop van een saloon begon hij een import bedrijf voor wijn en sterke drank. Daarnaast werd hij een prominent Democraat in de lokale politiek. Hij trouwde met Mary Augusta Hickey in 1887, zij was de dochter van een rijke zakenman in de stad. Zijn zoon Joseph trouwde Rose Fitzgerald, en dit vormde de basis van de politiek invloedrijke familie.
